‘Ahahui Kaumuali‘i

Celebrating
King Kaumualiʻi

Last sovereign ruler of Kauaʻi and Niʻihau

Mission & Vision

‘Ahahui Kaumuali‘i began formally in 2012 to honor the last and great King of Kauaʻi with the mission to:

The group received its 501(c)(3) status in 2016 with a cultural-historical and educational designation. We are blessed to have many individuals and groups within our local community, across the pae ʻāina, and even from the continent support and participate in our vision.

We began with the idea of installing an eight foot bronze statue and shared this dream at our first He Inoa No Kaumualiʻi Hoʻolauleʻa in 2017. We received encouragement to work toward fulfilling the dream for the west side community.

District Representative Dee Morikawa pledged support for the GIA, Kauaʻi County CEP gave us a grant to sponsor the event, and Alexander & Baldwin contributed our first donation toward Annual Giving.

So began a four year journey of fundraising, Kaumualiʻi events around the island, displays, school projects, and getting the message out. The 2018 GIA grant provided the funds to finish the statue with a quiet dedication, due to COVID, in March 2021.

And here we are after a long and challenging journey, with guidance from Nā ʻAumakua when we needed it most. Our work continues to be blessed.

We have the spirit of our King reinstated at his home and his story and land corrected in the historical record. This truth is a gift and affirmation for the community and culture - a sense of place to celebrate the past and future together.

ʻAʻohe hana nui ke alu ʻia
No task is too big when done together by all.

Join our kuleana to continue to develop Pāʻulaʻula for the local community and visitors to enjoy anew with walkways, storyboards, and native landscaping to restore the natural beauty of this wahi pana.

‘Ahahui Kaumuali‘i are dedicated to perpetuating the culture and history of this place for all to enjoy.

Kauaʻi i ka Malie.
